The US now has access to more than half Australia’s military bases – could it drag the country unwillingly into war?

Tanter argues that the acceptance of the US military presence has become so ingrained within the government and defence that unwinding Australia’s enmeshment within the world’s most powerful military is increasingly difficult.
“This is a massive institutional failure in Australia, a kind of learned incapacity at a political, parliamentary and bureaucratic level,” he says. “We’ve learned how not to ask those questions.”Shortis says Australia’s increasing integration with the US military has resulted in “an accelerating erosion of Australia’s independent, sovereign, decision-making power”.

“Instead of having the option of saying ‘no’ to involvement in United States wars, involvement becomes the default position.”
She cites the March attack by a US nuclear-powered submarine on an Iranian frigate, sinking it and killing more than 100 people. Three Australian naval personnel were onboard, part of the submarine’s crew: the US did not forewarn Australia of the attack.

Great article. Australia’s position is not sovereign.
Shortis says Australia’s increasing integration with the US military has resulted in “an accelerating erosion of Australia’s independent, sovereign, decision-making power”.

“Australia might maintain the pretence of sovereign decision-making power, but that’s not the reality.”
This is not discussed in the article but being so available also gives entry to Israel into our military affairs, seeing as they are merging with the US military.
Probably not, but the real question is will we go willingly like every other goddamn time. If the coalition was in it’d be a certainty.
If US gets into a war with China (say) we are targets because of US bases, whether we want to go to war or not, as some of these bases are launch sites for missiles, etc, directed at China.
“The Australian government seems to be waltzing its way into a war between the United States and China, by allowing this country to become an outpost or bastion of the US military, and as a platform from which they will launch military force against China,” he says.
We need to kick these warmongering cunts out yesterday before we become collateral damage in their next illegal war.
Australia is far enough away from China for land based missiles (not like Japan and Philippines the other American vassels). Pine gap gets new satellites and Darwin/Tindall gets a new runway and apron to house b52s. B52’s are known to carry what you say?
