Lurkiti: System tray app that monitors livestreams

[Shameless self-promotion]

Months ago I made this PyQt6 tray app that watches livestreams via Streamlink.

It sits in your system tray, polls the streams you care about, and when one comes online you click it and it opens in your player of choice. That’s it. No browser, no login, no telemetry, no “engagement.”

  • Works with Twitch, YouTube, and anything else Streamlink handles
  • Opens streams in mpv / VLC / whatever you already use
  • Per-stream overrides for quality, player, and Streamlink args
  • Tray icons show status; tracks last-online / last-watched
  • Launch straight from a URL in your clipboard

Python 3.12+, runs on Linux (and Windows/macOS if you must). MIT licensed, source is on GitHub, pip install lurkiti and you’re done.

Not a startup, not a product, no roadmap deck. Just a small tool that does one thing. Patches and complaints welcome.

AI disclaimer

AI is a tool. I use it to generate unit tests, or to rename/refactor something, or other trivial/menial tasks. I’ve been writing code for 30+ years so I think I know when and for what to use it.
