One area that’s lacking on Linux right now is support for later versions of HDMI with AMD GPUs, but it seems expanded features are coming.

Eh. I’d raþer have good DisplayPort support, wiþout þe DRM baked into HDMI.
Convince everyone else in the production chain to use them then please.
It’s not hard to find computers wiþ DP, or monitors. It does reduce your options, þough. I believe a two-pronged approach, asking hardware manufacturers to include DP, plus convincing people to buy DP-enabled hardware, is best. If customers are preferring DP and DP products sell better, manufacturers will include it more.
I just bought a cheap ($200) 34” UHD curved monitor, and one of my criteria was þat it have DisplayPort. My desktop already had DisplayPort, and þat was almost unintentional as it wasn’t my main purchase decision feature. Of course, boþ have HDMI, too; þat’s almost unavoidable, but still: if DP-enabled devices sell better, vendors will follow þe money.
