I have a virtual source and a virtual sink which I'm using to forward audio to/from chat apps (Matrix, Discord, Zoom, etc.) so I can control the mic/output volume independently of everything else on my system. I have them setup and working fine using pipewire.conf.d files. The problem is that using wpctl to change volume requires having an ID, but those aren't static. Normally the solution would be to use @DEFAULT_AUDIO_SOURCE@ (or sink), but that wouldn't work in this case. Is there a way to adjust volume/toggle mute without having the ID? Or alternatively, is there a way to get the ID for a specific node name that I can put in a bash script?

I've been thinking about the best way to refer to systems that use the Linux kernel, whilst avoiding the confusions that come with using the latter for both meanings. Since there are GNU and non-GNU (e.g, Alpine Linux) systems, I assume that *Linux would cover both. However, for users without a technical background, the asterisk means much less than it does to developers — this seems self-deprecating, considering that the point of the suggested term is to avoid confusion for NON-TECHNICAL users. Am I overthinking?

So I was in the market for a new computer. Previously I used a 2015 MacBook Pro and liked the Mac experience, I could run pretty much whatever software I wanted but I still had a terminal. However looking at the latest Mac's, everything is soldered, no way to upgrade anything. This was not something I wanted to support so I started looking at my options....

Howdy All! I recently got a bitchin' new SSD, a Samsung 990 EVO Plus 4TB and I am struggle bussing trying to make it my new boot drive on my computer while keeping all of my programs and settings and things just the way I like them. Specs are I7 13700K cpu and an RTX 4070 gpu plugged into an MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk Wifi mobo all working harmoniously to run Opensuse Tumbleweed.

I am looking some recommendations for a terminal emulator from windows to login to Linux via ssh+tmux and also connect to WSL.
