I once updated my OS (mint) and it didn't demand my password before updating. I assumed I'd just installed some malware, but I might as well check--is there any legitimate reason for an update through the Update Manager to not want a password?

@Uair @linux Yes, some things install only in your home directory, and can work without root permissions, because they are just files going into your home directory where you have full write permissions. Things like applets and summer flatpak packages do this.


If you had authenticated within a few minutes prior to that for another action, it probably would not have asked.
