Portland, OR.

Portland, OR.

I had shot this back in June and had only just now discovered I had it. It was even edited and ready to go; I blame my ADHD. There’s probably a lot of art on this computer that I just forgot about.

My exposure curve was a bit weird for this one; I ended up darkening the midranges to bring out some of that dramatic sky texture. In the back is (presumably) the Portland Spirit, taking its next tourists back upstream.

Also I may have an announcement tomorrow, but I’m not committing to anything until it’s happening.

Thanks for seeing my work!

This made me sad. It’s a beautiful photo, and yet we all just scroll by - some of us pausing for a second to tap the upvote button. It, and so many other beautiful things, deserve more. This always connected, in your face, everything all the time world we’ve created is fucked in so many ways.

I get this feeling often. I can’t explain why I chose to write it here.

I think it’s empathy. It may feel discouraging that there’s so many things worth appreciating in the world yet so little time, but if each of us just try to do so in what little time we have, everything will get seen by at least someone, and beauty that made someone happy (at least in this case you, me, and the OP) is beauty not wasted :)

This might be a bit meandering, but bear with me.

I set up the inside of my phone so that there’s no algorithms sending any sort of content or creation my way, at least none other than “chronologically taken fine art photos,” which there are three methods of getting to my eyeballs on my phone. The device in my hand is there to soothe, unlike most phones people hold, which are there to enrage and engage. My favorite games, my favorite books, music, movies, and fine art museums, all in one device.

And whenever I want to see some really good photography, there will always be some, waiting there for me to linger on, to muse over.

(Actually I guess Lemmy is a vote-weighted chronological algorithm but I’ve made good real life friends from this place that have helped me grow.)

With that blur, the Spirit has never looked so fast!
